Choice of Toppings

Having recently gained full-time employment, I am once again becoming aware of all the positive aspects of a regular routine.

The weekend, for one thing, has an actual meaning now. It means a chance to catch up on sleep; not be at work; do whatever the hell I want. I got so used to being able to do whatever I wanted every single day that the meaning of each day became irrelevant. And of course, I couldn't do anything I wanted because I didn't have the money to pay for it.

Friday is now eagerly anticipated, and comes around surprisingly quickly when you have a busy schedule. Pay-day is the best day of the month, with funds already earmarked for the purchases you can finally justify and afford. Bank holidays are a gift; a free pass to shorten a work week and lengthen the gloriousness of the weekend.

And today, after four weeks of employment, I have made a delightful discovery:

Choosing what to have on my pizza is currently the most difficult decision I have in my life.

I have a job in a really good team, working to make a difference in people's lives. I have a flat in London, that I can afford, where I am able to support myself. I have friends who I love and who care about me in return.

I am so incredibly lucky to have all that.

This is a reminder that in spite of the things I have been through, and all the things that I have overcome to get to this point - it is okay to be happy, it is okay to be selfish (sometimes), and it is a really great thing when your only care in the world is what to put on your pizza.

  1. Also sounds like you can eat pizza whenever you want, which is another sign that you're winning at life. Nice!
